Crochet women’s lace summer top – red sage stitch crochet pattern
Step-by-step crochet instructions
Step 1
Start crocheting from the top to bottom.
Make a foundation chain of 117 chs or multiples of 3 chs (I count all the loops including the loop on my hook).
Step 2
1st row (right side) – h3ch, inc1, dc to last one ch; inc1 + RC1
Red sage pattern
2nd row (wrong side) – h2ch, hdc3, [sk2, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) into 1 ch] to last 5 chs; sk2, hdc3 + RC1
3rd row – h2ch, hdc3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, hdc3 + RC2
4th row – h3ch, dc to end + RC2
(you should have 149 chs)
5th row – h3ch, inc1, dc18, inc1, dc35, inc1, dc37, inc1, dc35, inc1, dc18, inc1 + RC1
(you should have 6 chs more)
Begin crocheting the pattern starting from the 2nd row or
6th row = 2nd row
7th row = 3rd row
8th row = 4th row, but do not work returning chains
Step 3
Front part
Count 25 chs from the beginning of your last row (8th row) and attach the yarn.
1st row (right side) – ch2, inc1 into sm.ch, dc24, dc24 on the other end of the 8th row, inc1 + RC2
2nd row – h3ch, inc1, dc to 1 last ch; inc1 + RC2
Repeat the 2nd row increasing 2 chs in each row until the front piece become wide enough to a half of your chest circumference.
3 – 6 rows = 2nd row
7th row = 2nd row, but do not work RCs
Step 4
Back part
Skip 50 chs from both sides of the front part and place markers. These will be shoulder parts. Use the remaining 51 chs for the back part.
1st row (right side) – ch2, inc1 into sm.ch, dc to last 1 ch; inc1 + RC2
2 – 7 rows = 2nd row of the front part
Step 5
Join back and front parts together
8th row (wrong side) – h3ch, inc1, dc to 1 last ch; inc1, inc1 into 1st ch of the front part, dc to last 1ch; inc1 + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
Step 6
Double crochet in the round
Flip the garment to the right side
1st round – ch3, dc to end + sl.st.1 into 3rd ch
2 – 6 rounds = 1st round (dc until you reach underbust)
7th round = 1st round, but work sl.st.1 into 4th ch
Step 7
Red sage pattern in the round
Use a smaller size crochet hook. You should have mult. of 6 chs
8th round – ch3, sk2, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) into 1 ch, ch1, sk2, hdc1, ch1, sk2] to last 3 chs; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) into 1 ch, ch1, sk2 + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
9th round – ch3, [(Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1 + sl.st1 into 2nd ch
10th round – ch3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1 + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
11th round = 9th round
Step 8
Increase every other hdc
12th round – ch3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 above hdc of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 above hdc of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1 + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
13th round – ch3, [(Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1 + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
14th round – ch3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1 + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
15th round = 13th round
Step 9
Increase every hdc
16th round – ch3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 above hdc of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1, (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 into last ch + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
17th round – ch3, [(Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; [(Cl1, ch1, hdc1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 into last ch + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
18th round – ch3, [(hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc2 between hdc2 of prev. round, ch1] to last repeat; (hdc1, ch1, Cl1) under ch of repeat, ch1, hdc1 into last ch + sl.st.1 into 2nd ch
19th round = 17th round
Step 10
Use a larger size crochet hook
Alternate 17th and 18th rounds until you reach the desired length of the garment.
Step 11
Edges
For all edges work sc to end, including neck, armholes, and bottom.

Hi Sana, please help me with
Hi Sana, please help me with the neck. Im using your instruction for fdjuhnke, amd got 40 repeats after 3rd row. But then, im stuck at the 4th one. How many dc should i make in this row? According to mine (which i have made 2 times), I got 165 dc by the end of 4th row. So if i added extra 6 increases in the 5th row, then I had more than 55 repeats in the 7th row. What should i do then?
2 more comfuses:
- should i crochet on the top of thr return chain whenever i do the next row?
- how can i make my edge a straight line as yours? I attach the picture so you can get what i mean.

Hi Diane C,
Hi Diane C,
I calculated my chs as follows. I started with 117 chs including 3 chs to pick up the height of my 1st row. So, 117 - 3 = 114 chs. Then I added 2chs (step 2 - 1st row) to have 116 chs. My 2nd row I started with hdc3 and ended with sk2, hdc3, so 3 + 2 +3 = 8 chs and for each repeat I used 3 chs, so (116 - 8) : 3 = 36 repeats. My 3rd row I started with hdc3 and ended with 3chs (last repeat) and hdc3 or 9 chs total. One repeat in [ ] is 4chs. So, (35 repeats x 4 chs) + 9 chs = 149 chs. After the 4th row I had 149 dcs. After that I added 6 chs or 149 + 6 = 155 chs. For the 6th row, I worked 49 repeats or (155 - 8) : 3 = 49 repeats.
If you start with 129 chs, then 129 - 3 = 126 chs. After step 2, you should have 128 chs or (126 + 2). For the 2nd row, (128 -8) : 3 = 40 repeats. 3rd row - (39 repeats x 4 chs) + 9 chs = 165 chs or 165 dc after 4th row.
For the 6th row, it is necessary to have multiples of 3 chs plus 8 chs or (55 repeats x 3 chs) + 8 chs = 173 chs. So, 173 chs - 165 chs = 8 chs - the number of chs that should be added in the 5th row. I've made a typo when I wrote to add 6 chs. I will correct that comment too. Happy crochet!

Hi, I love this top but can you help with size I have 110cm bust how many chs I do and general instructions please. also... is it posible to put sleeves on it?
Sana replied on Permalink
Hi Sandracrochet,
Hi Sandracrochet,
Please read my comment to fdjuhnke. For your size, I would start with the same number of chs as for her size (107 cm bust), but work one additional increase row (step 3) before joining front and back parts together, assuming that your gauge will be the same as mine. To add sleeves, I would dc until I crochet to about underbust, and then work red sage pattern in the round (step 7). Happy crocheting!
